Oh my god. Were you on the Josh and Donna yahoo mailing list? With Shelley and her dumb recaps?

Wow, that's a blast from the past! You know, my first reply was going to be that no, I was on the FF list but not the other, but then I thought about it and I do have this vague recollection of being on that list for about five minutes, the last two or three minutes of which were distinguished by the fact that I had the nerve to express an "opinion" that I believe may simply have been a reminder that it was not called The Josh and Donna Show because--gasp!--there were other characters, and being roundly denounced for pointing out the obvious, and either being kicked off or deciding I had no desire to stick around. Can't remember which. I do also vaguely recall getting email from someone who agreed with me. I can't think anyone would remember me from that list unless it was that person--was that you?

Hey,
I'm Stephanie. The one who at the end of Zoe's kidnapping complained that it was handled awfully that we should have felt like "we had saved our loved one" at the resolution of the kidnapping. Then they told us we weren't allowed an opinion unless it was a positive one. I'm not sure if you remember me but I had e-mails from you in an old college e-mail account before they purged it. I liked re reading them. How the heck are you? Am I ringing any bells?

Wow, you've got a better memory than I do--I guess this would have been around 2003? Doesn't seem that long ago, but I guess it is! If you remember emailing me, then it must be you, because there was only one person who did. I don't remember the details too well, but I do remember something about the "positive opinion" business--which I recall meaning "you must agree with the rest of us," which I think is why I took off. I'll have to go dig through my old email now and see if I can find that stuff--knowing me, I probably DO have it somewhere!

How in the heck did you manage to come across me in the great wide internet world, btw? I'd think the odds of that would have to be astronomical! (I don't mind--I don't know if I sound like I do but I'm not complaining--I'm just rather astounded!)

I know imperviousness from mutual friends on LJ. So I was looking at her friends list and I thought. Hey I know that e-mail address!! I was kind of worried that I dropped you like a hot potato around that time because I wouldn't have put it past myself to have stopped e-mailing for no reason. Shucks, I'm sorry if I did. How long did you stick the West Wing out. I liked to have pretended it ended at the end of S2. Not only because of J&D but I never warmed to the idea of C.J. being anything but press secretary because I thought she was fun, flirty and brilliant.

Looks like we have the awesome [livejournal.com profile] qill13 in common--man, what are the odds of that? Wild!! I think we did only email a few times, but I haven't lost sleep over it, don't worry!

I lasted through about half of S6--the first few minutes of "King Corn" left me so bored that I actually turned it off. I have the DVDs through S4, and I wish it had stopped there. I'm with you on CJ. I think that without Sorkin, the show was just a shadow of its former self (though I'm still pissed at him for completely assassinating Hoynes' character at the end of S4--the eps are great, but I actually liked Hoynes and didn't think he deserved to be written that way).

It just turned too real for my tastes. So real that college classes are teaching with it. I liked the optomistic earnestness of it, I didn't want it to be realistic. I wanted it to be what I wanted in government and not what we already have. If I wanted real life all the time I'd never turn the tv on. Hoynes was interesting. Yeah, any talk about how the characters had changed for the worst turned me off. I was hard enough to break up with it but stories about how the characters changed just made me sad. I hear that Jed didn't even like Toby at the end. Not good.

I think you're definitely right that it lost its idealism, but it also lost the wit. I wanted to believe that people in the WH were as clever as the ones on TV, so I get that feeling. But I still loved it through S4. It's after that that the wheels really fell off the wagon.

Anyway--we can keep this conversation up in the morning, because if I try to keep going now, you're likely to get articulate comments like, "Whag ufuyw93?" ;)

You know what. Imperviousness is on my friendslist which led to Jo March a well known to me name in WW fandom and her friendslist led here. Sorry I forgot chain that got me to you're nickname.

I'm not sure that I'm all that interesting myself, but sure, why not? I have a writing filter, a Doctor Who filter, and the Everything Else Going On In My Life filter, so let me know what sounds interesting to you. I don't want to subject you to stuff that'll bore you. ;)

All those filters sound good to me. I love Doctor Who and I'm quite nosy so the other two sound interesting as well.

Fair enough! I should warn you that I filter DW stuff because I'm often annoyed with Rusty and will vent accordingly--I guess the idea of me having unpopular opinions won't come as a surprise to you!. And I've had a rough week away at a grad school residency which has resulted in some uncharacteristic whining. If at any time you want me to change the filtering in any way, just let me know and I'll take care of it :)

And with that, I have GOT to get to bed--I can barely keep my eyes open!! :)

Why, hello there! Wow! This is a nice surprise! (Ooh, and you do tarot and like Nick Hornby!) Yes, by all means, go for it! I see you've got filters on your flist, too (finally I don't feel like a freak!) so I shall check those out and let you know. Mine are prettty much as follows: DW/fannish, writing/grad school, and Life (which for reasons I no longer understand also contains a fair bit of fannish stuff that doesn't go elsewhere). Let me know where you'd like me to put you, and I'll take care of it! :)

Why, hello there! Okay, no problem--I see we have a few friends and more than a few interests in common. :) I have a bunch of filters set up--a DW filter to spare my non-DW friends, a Politics filter (for roughly the same purpose), and everything else is about my sometimes crazy/wacky but often rather ordinary life. Any of those sound good to you (or, conversely, any that you'd sooner drown yourself than read)? Let me know and I shall add you back!

Hi--no problem, though I tend to discuss DW mostly during DW season, so if that's what you're mostly interested in, I can add you to my DW filter and spare you all my day-to-day posts. (I also ask people to opt into my politics filter, since it's political!) Just let me know, and welcome! :)

Eeeee! Sorry I didn't get to this last night. I'm happy to, though I should warn you that most of my journal is venting about stupid RL stuff. I rarely post about TV at all these days (but as you've seen, I do participate elsewhere if there's an interesting conversation going on).
